Drupal to WordPress Migration: How to Get the Best Result?

It is a common myth that Drupal to WordPress migration is challenging. All you need to understand id the basic meaning of Drupal. Ideally, Drupal is a powerful content management system that can handle projects irrespective of the complexity level. Drupal is not user friendly; unlike WordPress, one should know this before installing and customizing it.

Lastly, if you an absolute novice in the CMS world, using Drupal without hiring experts could be challenging. All you need to know that everything that will be transported from Drupal to WordPress in a completely automated manner.  

Based on your requirements, customization may be offered to convert the website to WordPress, but you need to know some basics of Drupal before doing so.

How to migrate from Drupal to WordPress?

If you plan to convert the website to WordPress, you need to sign up with your service provider. It would be best if you did provide your email, name, phone number, and select a password. Additionally, you can also sign in using your Google or Facebook account. It would be best if you chose an appropriate option for this.  

Add its URL address and choose Drupal as your current CMS. After this, you need to set up a connection to your Drupal website. You can do this by downloading and install the connection link to your device.   • Install and activate the FG Drupal to WordPress plugin:

 

Firstly you need to log in to the WordPress site and search for plugins. Once you find it, you need to type FG Drupal to WordPress on the search bar on the screen’s right side. When you see it on the screen, you need to click on the install now button next to its domain name.  

 

After the plugin installs itself, then the button will read activate once the process is completed. You need to click on it one more time, and you can be free. 

 

  • Look for your Drupal database parameters:

 

It would be great to locate some specific parameters before you can use the plugin to transfer from Drupal to WordPress. These are your Drupal password, hostname, username, and database prefix and name.

Lastly, you should already know some of them, but you can find a few by jumping into your Drupal’s installation’s main files, an FTP client. You can access your files using the client and navigate to the site or default directory. Under this part, you will find the file known as settings.php.

 

You can open this file by using your favorite text editor and locate all parameters that were specified earlier. 

 

  • Import your Drupal content to WordPress:

 

You need to navigate back to your WordPress’s dashboard and choose the tools tab under which you have to select the option to option. A new Drupal option will appear if you have installed the plugin successfully.

 

Then you need to click on the run importer, and you will find yourself on a new page with a wealth of settings to configure. Next, you need to import a summary to the content using read more link. Before moving on to the medias section, you can choose whichever option you prefer.  

 

Additionally, you can select the skip media option if you don’t want the plugin to import your media. Also, you can choose which images should be set as featured for your posts and pages. If you don’t run into any import process, your media migration is most likely to be plain sailing.

It will account for variable download speed, which helps you in importing the media successfully.

 

Click on the start or resume button once you are set and sit back while the plugin does its work. A success message will appear on your screen when the migration process is complete. Lastly, you need to scroll to the end of the settings page and then click on modify internal links. Thus then you will be able to migrate successfully from Drupal to WordPress.

What should you do once the migration is over?

After you have completed the migration process, then you have to take complete advantage of the platform’s functionality. Firstly you need to choose a fancy theme for your site, and then you should install any plugins you need. It takes time to find the right plugins, but it is totally worth the wait.

 Furthermore, migrating a website isn’t a complicated task as long as you pick up the perfect tool for the job. When you run a website, you should also know that it isn’t a static process, and it needs to be continuously improved.
