Latest Updates of IPL 2021

The IPL 2021 (Indian Premier League) kick started on 9^th of April but due to the sudden hit of the second wave of covid-19 the tournament was suspended on 4^th of May. During the time of suspension, 31 matches out of the total of 60 matches were yet to be played off. The BCCI on the 29^th of May declared that the remaining of the 29 matches of IPL 2021 will played in the months of September and October in the UAE (United Arab Emirates), due to the rapid increase in the number of cases in its bio-bubble.

IPL 2021 is set to be resumed from 19^th September 2021 and the final match will be held on 10^th October. The rest of the 31 matches have been segregated on the basis of the following factors:

• 10 doubleheaders
• 7 single headers
• 4 playoffs

The remaining of the IPL 2021 matches will likely clash with England’s limited-overs tournament of Bangladesh and Pakistan ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Impact of Covid-19 on IPL 2021 and the players

Due to the major hit of the second wave of corona virus, many players were forced to take their leave from the game in order to support their families and to take care of their own health.

• Post Chennai leg of the tournament, player Ravichandran Ashwin left Delhi Capitals and withdrew from IPL 2021 in order to support his family during the time of the epidemic.
• The match scheduled between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore on the 3^rd of May was postponed after two players from Kolkata Knight Riders were tested positive for covid-19.
• On the 3^rd of May itself, three members from Chennai Super Kings camp inclusive of Lakshmipathy Balaji, their bowling coach and their CEO Kasi Viswanathan also tested positive for covid-19.
• Later on the same day the team of Delhi Capitals went into quarantine and Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad passed over their practice sessions for their match which was to be held on the 4^th of May.
• On 4^th of May the match scheduled between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals on 5^th May was postponed due to the players of Chennai Super Kings being in quarantine.

The tournament was suspended officially for indefinite time on the 4^th of May due to the covid-19 outbreak. A group of English countries on 6^th May 2021, put forward a suggestion of holding the remaining matches of IPL 2021 in England in the month of September.

However, the president of the BCCI, Saurav Ganguly on 9^th May, dismissed the idea of holding the remaining of the IPL 2021 matches in England or India for that matter, keeping in mind the complications regarding quarantine.

The effects of the second wave of corona virus on IPL 2021 managed to leave all the Indians disheartened because of the suspension.
