Virat Kohli-The Crazy Story

Our Very Own Virat Kohli, known to be one of the best Batsmen in the World is the Captain of the Indian National Cricket Team and is a right-handed top-order batsman. He also plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore for the IPL (The Indian Premier League) and he is the team’s captain for RCB since 2013. He is one of the top ODI Batsmen since October 2017 and he is also second in the Test ranking with 886 points. During his Captainship, India won the 2008 Under -19 world cup held in Malaysia.

 

Early Life

Born on 5th November 1988 to a Punjabi Family. His father Mr. Prem Kohli is a Criminal Lawyer and his mother is a homemaker. He has two siblings Vikas Kohli, brother, and Sister Bhavana Kohli. He is the youngest in the family. He was three years old when he used to pick-up the Bat and swing it in the air and use to ask his father to bowl at him. He was born and grew up in Uttam Nagar, West Delhi and use to go to Vishal Bharti Public School.

How did he get into Cricket

The West Delhi Cricket Academy was founded in 1998 and Virat Kohli was one of the first intakes. He was just nine then. When his neighbors saw him playing well in the streets, they suggested Kohli’s father that his talent should not be wasted like this but should be polished, it was then his father took him to the cricket Academy. He was trained by Rajkumar Sharma at the academy. He was very Natural in whatever he did and everyone was impressed by his attitude. People say that he was ready to do batting at any spot or place and he was literally pushed home after the training was over but he won’t just listen and continued to play cricket. He shifted to Saviour Convent in Paschim Vihar to help himself for cricket practice in the ninth grade. He was also good with his academics apart from sports. He used to stay in Meera Bagh in Delhi until 2015 and later he shifted to Gurgaon in 2015. He lost his father on 18th December 2006  and misses him every day.

His Career

Kohli first played in 2002 for Delhi, Under-15 at 3rd Polly Umrigar Trophy where his performance was amazing with 172 runs at an average of 34.40. He became the captain for the same team in 2003-04 Umrigar Trophy and he had scored 390 runs in 5 innings. He was then selected for the Under-17 cricket team for Vijay Merchant trophy in 2004 where he finished the match with 757 runs from 7 matches with an average of 84.11 with 2 centuries.

Kohli was selected for India Under-19 team for a tour to England in July 2006. He had a score of 105 in 3 matches ODI series against England Under-19 team. India won both the series and India Under-19 coach Mr.Lalchand Rajput was very impressed with Kohli’s technical skills against spin and pace. In September in the same year, he played against the Under-19 team against Pakistan and won. He made his debut for Delhi by playing against Tamil Nadu and he totally came into the spotlight when played against Karnatka a day after his father’s death and scored 90. He rushed directly to the funeral after he was dismissed. Mithun Manhas who was the Captain of the Delhi team said, this is the act of great commitment to cricket. It was like his life completely changed after that day, he became more matured and suddenly his father’s dream of him becoming a cricketer became his own, and then he was unstoppable. In April 2007, he made is debut in the Inter-state T20 championship and in  February 2008 he got selected in the Indian Cricket Team at the 2008 ICC Under 19 Cricket world cup which was held in Malaysia and rest is what we know he is the Captain of our Cricket Team and his dedication and determination for the game speaks for him.
